Es Calo

At the bottom of the La Mola plateau rising to the east there is the sleepy and picturesque fishermen’s village Es Calo de Sant Augusti on the rocky north coast. Here, you are on historic ground since the small, well protected bay was the island’s most important port in Roman times. Even today you can see the stony rests of the „Camí Romá“leading from Es Calo to the plateau. The peaceful village, many residents of which still earn their living by fishing, is very popular with holiday makers because of the moderate prices. In the village centre and in the densely wooded dunes on the periphery there are small restaurants, bars, shops and well-maintained apartment resorts. Enjoy the freshly caught fish and a spectacular sunset on one of the beautifully situated terraces of the restaurants.

The nearest (ca. 500 m), 2 km long beach is called Platja Tramuntana and characterized by its rocky ground, some small sand bays hidden between the rocks and its clear turquoise water. Here, on this unmanaged beach nothing will trouble your ease and quiet. Playa Arenals (see Play Arenals) is ca. 2 km to the south of Es Carlo.
